  James C. Loden, M.D.

  Founder and President

Loden is a native of Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Loden is carrying on the family tradition set forth by his father, Dr. James P. Loden, who was a nationally recognized eye surgeon. He received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee. Dr. Loden completed his ophthalmology residency at UT prior to moving to Indianapolis where he underwent extensive fellowship training in corneal transplants, refractive surgery, and anterior segment reconstructive surgery. Dr. Loden returned to Nashville where he founded and became president of Loden iVision Centers in 1999. Dr. Loden has continued to prove his expertise with the thousands of successful surgical procedures he has completed. He performs iCataract™ surgery, corneal transplant surgery, iLASIK® procedure, Refractive Lens Exchange, and glaucoma treatments. Dr. Loden has presented papers at international conferences as well as taught surgical techniques to other doctors. Dr. Loden is a board certified member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. Dr. Loden is also a board member of the Society for Excellence in Eyecare (SEE). Dr. Loden is also recognized among the top 10% of Lifestyle Lens surgeons in the United States. Dr. Loden has presented lectures on the Lifestyle Lens to surgeons from around the world. He has lectured at the New Jersey Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has lectured to surgeons both in the United States and abroad. A true pioneer in his field, Dr. Loden was the inventor and the first to use Bladeless iCataract™ Surgery. Dr. Loden resides in Nashville with his wife and 2 children. He is an avid outdoorsman and conservationist. Dr. Loden is very active in the community and supports local youth sports teams along with many charitable organizations.

  Thomas D. Bailey, M.D., F.A.C.S.

He went on to graduate with his Doctor of Medicine degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Bailey completed his internship at USAF Medical Center, Wright-Patterson AFB, and Wright State University School of Medicine and his residency at Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University. Dr. Bailey has written numerous publications and has lectured on his areas of specialty across the United States at hundreds of ophthalmic meetings. Dr. Bailey, a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, specializes in cataract surgery, iLASIK® procedures, and is the first full-time ophthalmologist living and practicing in Paris in over a decade.

  Terrence Doherty, M.D.

  Board Certified Ophthalmologist Fellowship-trained LASIK Surgeon Fellowship-trained Corneal Surgeon iLASIK and iCataract Specialist Member of American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology and certified by American College of Eye Surgeons First surgeon in Tennessee to perform IntraLase Enabled Keratoplasty (IEK) Upon receiving his Medical degree, summa cum laude, from St. Louis University School of Medicine, Dr. Terrence Doherty completed his residency in Ophthalmology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. While at Case Western, Dr. Doherty was promoted to Chief Resident of Ophthalmology and established the Surgical Video Teaching conference for the residency program. After his residency, Dr. Doherty completed his Cornea and Refractive Surgery Fellowship at the prestigious Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Doherty is a board certified ophthalmologist, a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, The Cornea Society, and the Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology. He has been published and lectured on numerous occasions, assisted in surgical training programs for other ophthalmologist at national meetings, and is an active member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AΩA) Medical Honor Society. Dr. Doherty has been with Loden Vision Centers since 2007 and remains on the forefront of technological development with regards to corneal transplants and refractive surgeries, including the blade free iLASIK® procedure. He was the first surgeon in the state of Tennessee to perform cornea transplants using the femtosecond laser, a technique called Intralase® Enabled Keratoplasty (IEK). He also regularly performs Descemet’s Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK), a partial thickness suture-free corneal transplant for patients with certain types of corneal diseases such as Fuch’s Dystrophy. Each year Dr. Doherty does hundreds of cataract surgeries, using the most advanced intraocular lens technology and manages a wide variety of glaucoma patients. He has also traveled to Haiti where he performed cataract surgeries as part of a mission trip for the Surgical Eye Expeditions (SEE) Foundation. Dr. Doherty and his wife, also an eye doctor, have three daughters and live in the Nashville area, where they are active members of their church and community. They are avid music lovers and enjoy cooking as well as a variety of outdoor actives including soccer and golf.

  Katie Mills, M.D.

  Board Certified Ophthalmologist iLASIK and iCataract Specialist Member of American Academy of Ophthalmology and Memphis Eye Society and certified by American College of Eye Surgeons Dr. Katie Mills completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and Anthropology at Rice University in Houston, Texas. She then received her Doctor of Medicine from Louisiana State University Health Science Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. She completed her internship at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, and completed her ophthalmology residency at the Hamilton Eye Institute at University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee where she was named Chief Resident. Dr. Mills is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Memphis Eye Society. Dr. Mills is a comprehensive ophthalmologist specializing in cataract surgery and iLASIK surgery.

  Joseph Sofranko, M.D.

  Medical Ophthalmologist

  Member of the Nashville Academy of Medicine, the Nashville Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology Dr. Joseph Sofranko graduated from Harvard University and the Medical School at the University of Pittsburgh. He completed an internship at St. Francis Hospital and his ophthalmology residency at the University of North Carolina. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Sofranko served in the U.S. Army for two years and then entered private practice for several years. Dr. Sofranko is on staff at Baptist Hospital, Centennial, Tennessee Christian, and Skyline Medical Center, and is also a member of the Nashville Academy of Medicine, the Nashville Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

  David O. Carrico, O.D.

  Clinical Director, Paris, TN

  Board Certified Optometrist Ocular Disease Management Specialist Member of the Tennessee Optometric Association, American Optometric Association and the Tennessee Academy of Optometry Dr. David O. Carrico graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University and then went on to graduate from Indiana University School of Optometry. He has been Clinical Director of the Paris location since 1988, providing primary and consultative eye care emphasizing in eye disease. Dr. Carrico has extensive experience in anterior segment, glaucoma, and retinal disorders. Dr. Carrico has lectured on many topics including diagnosis and management of eye disease, preoperative and postoperative patient care. He is a member of the Tennessee Optometric Association, American Optometric Association and the Tennessee Academy of Optometry. A Board Certified Optometrist, Dr. Carrico has over 23 years experience and specializes in Ocular Disease Management.

  Daniel J. Schimmel, O.D.

  Optometrist

  Member of the American Optometric Association and the Tennessee Optometric Association Dr. Schimmel grew up in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, followed by Doctor of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. Upon completion of optometry school, he entered private practice in Knoxville, Tennessee for nine years. He then left private practice and completed a one-year fellowship at Omni Eye Services of Chattanooga, Tennessee, in the diagnosis and management of ophthalmic diseases. Dr. Schimmel has been involved, since 1987, in both the administrative and the direct clinical care of patients at large referral centers in Knoxville, Nashville, and Chicago. He has managed over 6,000 patients pre- and post-surgically for both cataract and laser vision correction. He has articles published on the management of corneal keratitis and lectured on a variety of topics including low vision, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Tennessee Optometric Association. Dr. Schimmel has served as board member to optometric associations at both the local and state level. Dr. Schimmel is a huge sports fan as well as a world traveler. He and his wife reside in Gallatin, Tennessee.

  Kathryn "Camille" Barberic, OD

  Optometrist

  Member of the American Optometric Association, Lions Club International, Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians and the Georgia Optometric Association Kathryn “Camille” Barberic, OD, completed her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee, and received her Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee in May 2013. Dr. Barberic completed her post-graduate training at Ducklo Eye Care in Nashville, Tennessee in 2012. She has also completed a mini-fellowship with Dr. James C. Loden at Loden iVision Centers in Refractive and Cataract Management. Dr. Barberic is a member of the American Optometric Association, Lions Club International, Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians, and the Georgia Optometric Association. Dr. Barberic joined Loden iVision Centers in 2014 and resides in Nashville, Tennessee.
